Applied Building Information, LLC (ABI) is the premier construction specifications firm in the Pacific Northwest. We provide a wide range of specification services for a diverse clientele: construction specifications for individual projects, product specifications that can adapt to different project-specific requirements, master specifications to maintain institutional knowledge and quality across many projects, and specifications consulting to serve the other unique needs of our clients.

Let's get started

Every project is different, but our recipe for a successful outcome is pretty consistent. We’ll bring our knowledge of materials, delivery methods, and project experience.  You bring your project goals, requirements, and passion for great design. The earlier we begin collaborating on your project, the better. Not exactly sure what you need? No problem.

We start by learning as much as we can about your project or product. Understanding the project scale, complexity, and requirements helps us develop a game plan and set expectations.

We learn who the stakeholders are and discuss how we can work together to achieve a great result. We’ve developed a smooth effective process over the years – but it’s not set in stone. 

Developing specifications is an iterative process. We usually start with a draft of the documents – it helps us get on the same page and identify things that weren’t discussed in the discovery phase. Outline specifications help facilitate early pricing by documenting design direction and other decisions. 3-part specifications include a much higher level of detail required for final pricing and installation.   

We have robust processes for incorporating your feedback into the documents. When it’s time for a deliverable, we can also coordinate with other consultants to incorporate their content into the table of contents (TOC) of the full specification set.

We can also support your project during construction. That can include things like answering RFIs or questions about substituting products. We can also assist with submittal review.

We create specifications for products, to make it easy for design professionals to effectively specify the product in their projects. For product manufacturers, specifications act as a tool to sell their product to large-scale construction projects. We develop that tool and teach them how to use it.
